Identity Icon with Linking Verbs

***TECHNOLOGY MEMO:  Many of you have told me that you only hear the audio when you play the video at home.  You must have an updated version of Windows Media Player to see the video.  If you are still having trouble with the file, I can put it on a flash drive for you. 

LANGUAGE ARTS

After finishing our GAWP, we went over the Brain Blast and the Droodles.  Then we talked about linking verbs.  You had thirty minutes to work on your Identity Icon.  Homework:  Finish your icon if you did not finish in class. 

Identity Icon Directions:  Draw ten pictures and five words of things that represent you on the large paper given in class.  At the bottom, write five sentences about the pictures/words.  You must use linking verbs in the sentences.  Your sentences should be six words or more.  Please do not repeat linking verbs.

Example: I am a championship tennis player for the Walton Raiders.  

In the example sentence, I = tennis player.  Remember that linking verbs "link" the subject to a noun or an adjective in the predicate.  

OOOOPPPS!-------> I play basketball for Pope High School.  Play is NOT a  linking verb!  It is an ACTION verb! The subject does not = the predicate. 

Early Bird Special:  Your Verbs Assessment will take place on Monday, November 16th!  It will cover transitive and intransitive verbs, direct objects, indirect objects, helping verbs, action verbs, linking verbs, and PN & PA (we will learn these next week).

After writing in our journals and going over the homework, we talked about Separated Verbs and Verbs in a Question.  You had the last twenty minutes of class to work with your "bands" on the Helping Verb Song!  Homework:  Memorize the Helping Verb Song for the performance tomorrow.  Remember that you will also have to list all twenty-three on a short Brain Blast after the concert.

We started our day with a Movie Monday.  We took a look at the Benchmark and TS-SS-CI assessment for a portion of the class.  We ended class with the Helping Verb song and the practice sheet.  You had 12-15 minutes to work on your Verb Idol performance.  Homework:  Memorize the Helping Verb song for Thursday's performance with your group!

Halloween Sensory Experience!

LANGUAGE ARTS

We had an amazing time working on some spooky stories in our Haunted Writer's Workshop!  You guys impressed me with your maturity and writing skills.  I heard a ton of figurative language and brushstrokes today!  Bravo!  Also, I'm sure your friends have already told you, but my "ghost" story was completely fictional!  I hope I didn't scare anyone too much!  :)  Homework:  None!  Have a super fun weekend!

You had the entire class  period to work on your Droodles!  They are your ticket in the door tomorrow!  If you do not have your Droodles completed when you walk into class, you will not be allowed to participate in the "experience" tomorrow!  Homework:  Finish your Droodles!

Indirect Objects

LANGUAGE ARTS

After working on our GAWP, we practiced working with direct objects through music.  Then we moved on to indirect objects.  At this time, you should understand transitive, intransitive, and action verbs.  You should also have a grasp on direct and indirect objects.  Homework:  None, but you will have a Brain Blast on Monday.  It will cover direct objects!
